Founded by the Spanish in 1580, Chillán is a city in southern Chile's Ñuble Region with a walkable centre dense with cafés, restaurants, and churches, plus an iconic open-air market selling produce, crafts, and clothing across several city blocks. The nearby Andes — including the Nevados de Chillán and Laguna del Laja National Park — draw visitors for skiing, hiking, and hot springs.
