This Armenian mountain town in the Kotayk region, on the banks of the Hrazdan River, was founded in 1947–1948 under the name Lusavan and renamed Charentsavan in 1967 to mark the 70th anniversary of the poet Yeghishe Charents. Sitting roughly north of Yerevan, it lies on the M4 highway connecting the capital to the Kotayk and Gegharkunik regions, with a railway line passing nearby and UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
