A small town on the southern slopes of the Gredos mountains in Ávila province, Candeleda sits close to the Tiétar valley and benefits from a mild Mediterranean-style microclimate with warm summers. Granted the title of villa by Enrique III in 1393, it has medieval roots and cultural ties stretching into neighbouring Extremadura and Castile-La Mancha. Each September, the town holds festivals and processions in honour of its patron, the Virgin of Chilla.
