Small Portuguese town in Alto Alentejo whose street festival, the Festas do Povo, was added to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2021 — an event in which residents decorate the town's streets with paper flowers and other ornaments. Campo Maior sits on the Spanish border in deep wine country, with a café and restaurant scene and a concentration of historic churches that exceed what its size might suggest.
