A Lombard industrial city north of Milan with a heritage-dense centre, many historic churches, and a lively café and restaurant scene. Busto Arsizio has roots in Roman settlement and was known in the medieval period for leather tanning, then in the sixteenth century for fustian weaving, before cotton spinning and weaving drove its expansion in the nineteenth century. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
