This Aegean coastal town in Balıkesir Province known for its olive oil production, Burhaniye sits on the Gulf of Edremit with a port, a compact café and restaurant centre, and an archaeology museum. A museum dedicated to the Turkish National Movement opened in 2008, and a biennial tourism and arts festival runs in July. The wider region, framed by mountains including the ancient Mount Ida, is within reach of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
