This bilingual German-Slovene village in Carinthia, close to the Slovenian border, Bleiburg sits in the Jauntal valley at the foot of the Petzen mountains. Its name derives from historical lead mining in the area. The village is also known for the 1945 Bleiburg massacre at the nearby Loibach Field, which has made the site a significant place of remembrance for Croatians. A pocket-sized café and restaurant scene and several historic churches round out what the village offers visitors.
