Berck

Pas-de-Calais · France

This seaside resort town on the Opal Coast in northern France's Pas-de-Calais, Berck sits behind a broad sandy beach stretching several kilometres along the English Channel, with grass-topped dunes and a seal colony visible at low tide in the Authie bay to the south. The town hosts an international kite festival each April and land-yacht racing events, and has drawn visitors for convalescence and seaside holidays since the mid-19th century, when painters including Édouard Manet and Eugène Boudin came to work here.
