This district capital in Ghana's Ahafo Region, Bechem is home to St. Joseph College (JOSCO), one of the country's well-regarded teacher training institutions, and also hosts a specialist school for the deaf and blind. The town's surrounding villages of Techimantia and Derma are among Ghana's notable tomato-producing areas, and Bechem United Football Club competes in the country's top football division.
