Bayburt
Bayburt · Türkiye
Sitting on the Çoruh River in northeast Turkey, Bayburt was a stop on the ancient Silk Road, visited by Marco Polo in the 13th century and Evliya Çelebi in the 16th. The remains of a medieval castle overlook the town, and the centre holds several historic mosques, Turkish baths, and tombs. The Çatalçeşme Underground Complex and Sirakayalar Waterfall lie in the wider province.
