Bardonecchia
Torino · Italy
This small mountain town in Piedmont's upper Susa Valley, Bardonecchia is a winter sports base with two ski areas — Colomion-Les Arnauds-Melezet and Jafferau — and hosted the snowboarding events of the 2006 Winter Olympics. In summer the valley serves as a starting point for mountain biking. The town grew substantially during construction of the Fréjus Rail Tunnel, the first rail crossing of the Alps, and retains a café and restaurant scene alongside several historic churches.
