This small Bavarian spa town west of Nuremberg is the only therapeutic spa (Heilbad) in Middle Franconia, built around mineral springs that also supply several bottled-water companies. The Franken-Therme baths and an open-air museum are the main draws. Windsheim held the rank of Imperial City within the Holy Roman Empire from the Hohenstaufen era until 1802, a history still reflected in the town's coat of arms.
