Asyut
Egypt
This large city in Upper Egypt on the Nile, Asyut is home to one of Egypt's largest Coptic Christian communities, reflected in a concentration of historic churches in the centre. The city also hosts a lively café and restaurant scene and serves as the starting point of the historic Darb el-Arba'in trade route. Asyut University was the first regional university established outside Cairo, and the city holds an Al-Azhar branch alongside it.
