A Mediterranean coastal town in Mersin Province, Anamur sits at Anatolia's southernmost point, where a beach strip and a seafront castle meet the foothills of the Cilician Mountains. The town is known for its bananas and peanuts, and the nearby ancient city of Anemurium — whose Greek name means "windy cape" — stands close to the headland. Anamur marks the western edge of Mersin Province, bordering Antalya Province.
