Al-Mada'in
Iraq
Al-Mada'in, also known as Salman Pak, sits a short distance southeast of Baghdad on the site of the ancient Sasanian Persian capital of Ctesiphon. The town holds the tomb of the companion Salman al-Farisi and the Taq Kasra, the great arch of the Ctesiphon palace, one of the largest brick arches ever built. Its historic churches add a further layer to a settlement shaped by successive civilisations across more than two millennia.
