Al Lisht
Egypt
Al Lisht, a village south of Cairo in Giza Governorate, holds one of Egypt's significant Middle Kingdom burial sites, with two pyramids built by the pharaohs Amenemhat I and Senusret I during the Twelfth and Thirteenth Dynasties. The pyramid complex of Senusret I is the best preserved from this period. The site also yielded the undisturbed tomb of Senebtisi, with recovered jewelry, and coffins from the tomb of Sesenebnef containing the earliest known versions of the Book of the Dead.
