Akhisar, a city in Turkey's Manisa Province, stands on the site of ancient Thyatira — one of the Seven Churches of Asia mentioned in the Bible — whose ruins and adjacent museum are the city's main draw for visitors. Settlements here date to around 3000 BC, and the city remained a significant trade hub through the medieval and Ottoman periods. The surrounding plain is also internationally associated with tobacco production and high-quality olives and olive oil.
